Midas Touch Studios

Blog #3 02/28/26 "We can rebuild it. We have the technology."

About two years ago I was talking with my daughter's school counselor Mr. Dye when he asked me about the Studio. “Midas Touch Studios - Is that you?!” he asked. I said Yes.

Then he told me about a gospel song that he had written many years ago called “Not What Was Written.” David (yes, school counselors have first names!) had the song recorded in a pro studio, but unfortunately the only copy he had was corrupted and the master had been lost.

I told him to bring the song over and I would get started on it. I figured it could be salvaged with some cleaning.

I have the “damaged” version for you right here so you can listen to it just the way I did.

But be prepared…

For the first 10 seconds, you will hear pretty strings. And you will think, “This isn't so bad…”

And then…

About 30 seconds in, the wheels come off with mud and distortion.

There's a beautiful track in there, somewhere. But I wasn't going to be able to get to it.

I was going to have to rebuild it.

And so I set about laying down the drums, bass, keys, etc.

The whole nine.

I didn't set out, however, to mimic what was on the original.

I wanted to add my own “seasoning” to the song - as much as David would allow. The song did go through a revision, and then we reached a point where both he and I were satisfied with the outcome.

And so I present to you…

Not What Was Written BEFORE

Not What Was Written AFTER

CAUTION I recommend dialing back -10 on your volume, especially on the BEFORE track. It seems SoundCloud might have given the tracks a bit of a boost.

Both hyperlinks are harmless, they will take you to my SoundCloud ONLY!

Feedback is considered a gift here.

The song is used with permission from David Dye

It's about relationships...

Thank you for visiting my little Music-verse.

I am a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.

But more than anything, I am a Believer. And I want to share something very personal with you.

In February 2023 I made an entry in my prayer journal: “Make a living making music”. When I wrote those words and prayed to God to make it happen, I had no studio and no idea when or how He would answer that prayer. I only knew that my Father was listening to the prayer of His child.

Long story short: Right away He began opening doors and directing my path. I see His hand working to fulfill that prayer.

Just like you, I am far from perfect. I'm not even religious. But I do have a relationship with Jesus. And I am a witness that He has been faithful in all of His promises to me. He has delivered me from evil more times than I can count. He has cleansed me. He has renewed my strength, time and again. He has changed the desires of my heart.

I don't share all this to be “preachy” or to make anyone uncomfortable. But having found something true and unchanging in a world full of lies and chaos - and having benefited so much from my relationship with Him - wouldn't I be remiss if I didn't share this experience with you?

I do believe all that I have experienced in Christ is available to everyone. And it has nothing to do with how much you go to church, how many good things you have done, how much money you give, etc.

It has to do with the relationship that begins the moment you say: “I believe in you, Jesus.”

Now let's talk about music…

My biggest influences from a creative standpoint are Bruce Springsteen, David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), and Peter Gabriel. But I also draw from a well of musical styles, genres, and generations too deep to dive into here.

I love good music.

I love making good music.

I love hanging out with great people who love making good music.

If you are one of those people, drop me a note!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
